Good Morning from the farm! The kids and I drove to Northern Indiana last night where this spry gal was waiting for us. Granny, always the ultimate hostess, made 40 massive cinnamon rolls for our homecoming..me and 4 small kiddos. When I walked in the door I said, “Wow! You’ve been busy!” She said (read in a sweet, southern accent), “I was planning on making orange marmalade rolls too, but can’t find my marmalade anywhere.” I told her not to worry because that was enough dessert to feed an army. Granny replied, “Honey, this isn’t dessert. I made cherry cheesecake trifles in those fancy soda counter cups for the babies.” My kids threw their hands in the air and promptly started jumping up and down...squealing. Granny said, “Hey now. Ya’ll need to settle down because you have to eat your dinner first.” She turned to me with that sweet, round face and those rosie cheeks and spoke, “They’re going to need some protein to keep from vomiting. I’ve used enough sugar to kill ‘em.” With our bellies full of chicken and dumplings and coma inducing sweets, she promptly put us all to bed at 6pm — including me. Snow tubing with the Christakos family! It was fast. It was fun. It was exhausting. Sweet Dennis took the brunt of it — pulling three kids behind him most of the time. The temp was in the teens but our Florida friends didn’t waver— not only did they survive but they had a blast! #growinguptrusty #sweethomeindiana #snowtubing #kateandjewel
We were just cleaning up from breakfast yesterday when it started to snow! It was Jewel’s first experience with the fluffy white stuff so we all happily ran out on the front porch to watch her reaction. First order of business — snow angels! Followed by driveway skating (thank you ice), snowballs and tag. They eagerly chased a barn cat...with little success for a snuggle and spent the rest of the time running wild and free. 15 degrees never looked so warm. #growinguptrusty #chinasisters #kateandjewel #snowangels
This little lady has no idea what’s about to happen. Yes, I’m about to kick her can in a no-holds-barred game of Disney Memory Match...but more importantly, her best friend Jewel is headed to the airport where she and her family will board a plane bound for Indy. We are so excited to host the Christakos family and would like to thank Mother Nature for providing some solid Indiana weather for our tan, Florida friends. Stayed tuned for the adventures of Hui Jia and Hui Dan. #chinasisters #kateandjewel #growinguptrusty
Step number 438 — just a smidge over the halfway mark! Dennis and the kids are tackling the Disney Lego Castle this week...all 4,080 pieces. Not joking. I’m across the hall working my way through a Jen Hatmaker book but love listening to their conversations. Which breed of dog is the smartest? Nola thinks the Australian Cobberdog and Jack...the “chow-weenie.” Is that even a real breed? #growinguptrusty #sweetslowmorning #disneylegocastle
She can crack an egg like a champ. Measure with expert like precision. Lick a beater like a boss....all while wearing a pair of hand-me-down footies. Kate’s independence is one of her greatest strengths. I’m sure it will serve her well one day...or land her in the principal’s office. Either way...I’m here for her.

One of these girls is 8. The other 80. They are BFFs and have matching necklaces to prove it. Slumber parties happen on a regular basis and they have a reputation for giggling after lights out. They love Jesus and ice cream and knick-knack shopping. Their favorite pastime...hanging out together. Who would have guessed that 30 short years ago, that was me curled up on Granny’s lap. But not just any granny — “The Granny of all Grannies!” She’s that amazing.

Christmas morning bedhead is the bestest bedhead of all!
It’s been a quiet day at home - the perfect way to start this holiday vacation. Dennis and I have prepped quiche, made lasagna, whipped up salad dressing, and baked cookies for an exchange. The littles come and go from the kitchen as they please - still dressed in pjs. Nola has busied herself with a set of colored pencils and has been camped out in her room for quite some time, giving me the perfect opportunity to snag a few photos of her new fancy-shmancy chandelier. A Christmas gift from Fun Mary and Fun Jeff, it’s one of her favorite things in this world. #growinguptrusty #nolarose #8isgreat #christmasvacation
Last night Dennis and I headed out to a holiday party with dear friends. We had a fantastic time - even winning the trivia contest! The best part of the evening though? Getting ready with my little helper, Kate. She spritzed my perfume and chose my lipstick. When we finished, I asked her what she thought of the end result. With hands on hips, that chubby-cheeked cherub said, “You look just like MEDUSA!” #growinguptrusty #medusa #notwhatiwasgoingfor #greekmythology
Little man did so well today! The surgeon and anesthesiologist commented on Bear’s manners and bravery. The also commented on the massive fossilized plug that was in his ear - dating back to the Ming Dynasty. I will spare you the details but know that it did come home in a jar to show his brother. Currently everything in our house is too loud and he is puzzled by the humming of the furnace! #growinguptrusty #bearcub #giftsfromchina #canyouhearmenow #maninblack
We almost made it through an entire year without a surgery or trip to the ER. Almost. Turns out the cub has something in his ear that can’t be removed in the office - we have tried twice. So, bright and early we will head to the hospital to have it removed. Prayers for skilled hands and for Bear’s brave heart. #growinguptrusty #eartroubles #whatisinthere #bigwillystyle
That poor gingerbread house - never saw it coming! #growinguptrusty #gingerbreadhouse #runrunrunasfastasyoucan
My boys have big plans today. Play. Lunch. Play. Dinner. Play. Bedtime. That pretty much covers it. #growinguptrusty #jenga #belittle #elves
Getting ready to archive my photos from the weekend, but before I do — I wanted to wish these two a life full of sideways glances, private jokes, countless belly laughs and sisterly secrets. I hope that one day they have a million side-splitting stories to tell. #sistersquad #rosieandkate #growinguptrusty #tistheseason
I’ve decked the halls, bathed the smalls, and even did the laundry! My outdoor shoots have wrapped for the season, meaning I have lots of extra time to capture my sweet family and to tackle some housekeeping projects. I love a million things about this photo but have to share what makes it special to me. Rosie is reading “Busy Kitties.” I read it to her when she was tiny. Her favorite part? When the kitty tinkles on the floor. Bet you can guess Katie’s favorite part! #growinguptrusty #busykitties #rosieandkate #deckthehalls
We took advantage of the amazing weather tonight and headed to the Chinese lantern festival in Indy with friends. Yes, the food was yummy. The lanterns — beautiful. But the highlight came when Katie said, “Thank you for bringing me to China tonight.” ❤️ #growinguptrusty #chineselanternfestival #sweethomeindiana @womackb1 @kjaerae
Oh, where to start? Meet my friend Sharin — the kind of gal that calls you up after she has spent a LONG day baking and prepping for Thanksgiving and says, “Want to go to the German Christmas market in Carmel?” Ummm, yes I do! As we strolled around the park, I couldn’t stop thinking about our last few years together. Our start came in the classroom but our friendship eternally sealed when she coached me and encouraged me during Mama T’s illness and eventually her passing. I had no idea what I was doing but she held my hand, listened and nudged when I was overwhelmed. She was “my person” during those long months and I love her for it. Last night I watched her cheer for the noodle-legged tots on ice skates and it reminded me that, not too long ago, she was cheering me on. Wobbly legs and all. How very thankful I am today, and everyday, for true and sincere friendship. * Please know that under Sharin’s coat is a T-Rex Christmas sweater...because she’s cool like that.
I took this handsome lad to the ENT today. It turns out that no physician was needed. He completed the exam himself. #growinguptrusty #redwhiteandblue #usa
My Father’s Dragon with 3/4 of the squad. It was Katie’s first show and she did amazing! She watched the entire 1hr play without leaving her seat! #growinguptrusty #myfathersdragon #purdue #rainysunday
