The Trusty family is growing...by two tiny feet! We are happy to share that we are in the process of adopting a daughter from China and can't wait to lay eyes on her precious, little face. We have chosen to work with CCAI (Chinese Children Adoption International) and only have the kindest things to say about our agency. Our dossier (fancy name for a ridiculous amount of paperwork) is safely in China and we have been logged in and waiting for some time now.
After 22 months of near silence, we heard from our agency that we are "close" and can expect a referral in the next 1-3 months. The sheer thought of seeing our child's face for the first time is every bit as exhilarating as when we first met Nola and Jack. I know that seems hard to believe to some, but it is true. We can hardly wait!
If you think about it, adoption is much like being pregnant, minus knowing a delivery date or at least a general timeframe. Signing agency paperwork is much like seeing a double pink line...knowing a baby is on his/her way. Days of waiting are filled with books for the proud new mom and pop. We have traded in our copy of "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" for "The Connected Child." We keep a running list of baby names (Kate, Caroline, Charlotte, Alice, Lily...etc) and I am chomping at the bit to start a nursery! The voice of reason (aka: Daddy) thinks we should wait a bit longer until we know her age and a little about her personality. Why is the voice of reason so darn reasonable all the time???
It's the oddest thing...adoption. Some say that when you adopt, the child grows in your heart instead of your womb. It is hard to imagine loving someone you have never seen. I assure you, it is possible. I get a heated rush of emotions when I think of her, imagine meeting her for the first time or daydream about rocking my little peanut to sleep. You see, I knew many years ago that I would adopt but I didn't know the details...when, where or why. Over the course of the last decade all of the pieces have come together and here we are...just months away from welcoming our little love home.
Feel free to follow along as we navigate the waters of adoption, travel to China and back home for the rest of our journey!
